Introduction
The Flickers of Hope Foundation Teens Leadership Club held its monthly meeting for October 2026 on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, commencing at 9:00 a.m. The session was designed to encourage the teenagers to develop courage, confidence, strong convictions, and the ability to make responsible decisions even when faced with fear, pressure, or difficult circumstances.
The meeting combined reading, leadership development, interactive discussions, and creative activities, providing the teenagers with an engaging and meaningful learning experience.
1. Book Club Session
The meeting commenced at 9:00 a.m. with the Book Club session, which lasted for one hour.
The session provided the teenagers with an opportunity to engage with their books, share their understanding, reflect on lessons learned, and develop their reading and communication skills. The discussion encouraged critical thinking and helped the teenagers connect lessons from their reading to their personal lives and leadership development.
2. Leadership Lesson – Courageous Leadership
Following the Book Club session, the teenagers proceeded to the month’s leadership lesson on “Courageous Leadership.”
The lesson focused on helping the teenagers understand that courageous leadership is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to do what is right and necessary despite fear or uncertainty.
Key areas explored during the lesson included:
- Overcoming Fear – understanding fear and learning not to allow it to prevent positive action.
- Moral Courage – having the courage to stand for what is right, even when it may not be popular.
- Saying No with Confidence – developing the confidence to reject negative influences, unhealthy pressure, and wrong choices.
- Standing Firm Under Pressure – remaining committed to one’s values and convictions when faced with peer or external pressure.
The lesson also emphasized two important leadership skills: Boldness and Decision Confidence, while highlighting Courage and Conviction as core values.
The teenagers were encouraged to understand that courageous leadership begins with everyday decisions. They were reminded that they can demonstrate leadership by speaking up respectfully, making responsible choices, standing for what is right, and refusing to be pressured into actions that go against their values.
3. Question and Answer Session
After the lesson, the teenagers participated in an interactive Question and Answer Session.
The session was particularly engaging, fun, and impactful. The teenagers had the opportunity to ask questions, share their thoughts, and respond to practical situations related to courage, peer pressure, decision-making, and leadership.
The interactive nature of the session allowed the teenagers to express themselves freely while also learning from one another. It further reinforced the key lessons from the day’s topic and encouraged them to think about how courageous leadership can be demonstrated in their schools, homes, friendships, and communities.
4. Creative Mind Game
The meeting concluded with a creative mind game, which provided a fun and refreshing way to end the day’s activities.
The activity encouraged creativity, concentration, quick thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. Beyond entertainment, it provided an opportunity for the teenagers to apply their thinking skills in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
