Rivers government urges parents not to deny children education due to lack of money

The Secretary to Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has urged parents in the state not to deny their wards education because of the inability to pay their school fees.

Danagogo said if money is considered first for education, many of them in some good positions today would not have been able to go to school.

He, however, reassured of the state government’s commitment to free primary education for all school-age children, irrespective of the economic status of parents.

He stated this while receiving executive members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Rivers State chapter in his office.

Danagogo said: “No child should be denied an education because a parent is unable to pay fees. What are we doing if the children coming behind us are educationally disadvantaged? That should not happen.”

He further stated the need for policymakers to focus on curriculum reforms, supervision and teacher quality.

“To positively influence the future of our children, government and teachers must ensure that our educational contents are solid and active. Besides, both the curricula and extra-curricula activities that will engage students at all levels must be revived to regain the minds of the young generation,” he said.

Chairman of the Union, Nkpogone Dumnaatah, said education is the backbone of all societies, expressing willingness to partner with the state government for better education.
