Flickers of Hope Foundation (FOH) successfully held its 2026 Annual Teens Leadership Boot Camp, from 10th to 21st August 2026, bringing together teenagers for two weeks of leadership development, learning, creativity, reading, teamwork, and personal growth.

The 2026 Boot Camp, which was the 7th Edition, was organized around the theme “PURPOSE TO IMPACT – Shaping the Leaders of Tomorrow.” The programme was designed to help young people understand who they are, discover their purpose, develop a vision for their lives, and learn how to translate their potential into meaningful impact in their families, communities, and society.

The two-week programme combined structured leadership training with practical activities that encouraged critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, self-expression, and responsible digital citizenship.

WEEK ONE: LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING

The first week focused primarily on leadership development and helping participants understand the connection between purpose, vision, action, and impact. Four days of structured leadership training were delivered.

Day One: Discovering Purpose

Topic: “Who Am I and Why Am I Here?”

The first day introduced participants to the concept of purpose and self-discovery. The session encouraged the teens to reflect on their identity, strengths, values, interests, abilities, and potential.

Participants explored questions around who they are, what makes them unique, and why understanding oneself is important in making meaningful life choices. The session helped them begin to see themselves not merely as young people preparing for the future, but as individuals who already possess the capacity to make a positive difference.

Day Two: From Purpose to Vision

Topic: “What Do I Want to Contribute?”

The second day focused on transforming an understanding of purpose into a clear vision. Participants were encouraged to think beyond personal success and consider the contributions they would like to make to their families, communities, and society.

The session emphasized the importance of having a clear direction and setting meaningful goals. Participants reflected on their interests, talents, aspirations, and the problems they would like to help solve.

Day Three: From Vision to Action

Topic: “Start Where You Are”

The third day addressed the importance of taking action. Participants learned that having a vision is only the beginning and that meaningful impact requires commitment, discipline, courage, and consistent action.

The session encouraged the teens to identify practical steps they could take with the resources, knowledge, skills, and opportunities already available to them. They were reminded that they do not have to wait until they are older or have everything they need before beginning to make a difference.

Day Four: Leading with Purpose

Topic: “My Life, My Impact”

The final leadership training day focused on purpose-driven leadership and personal responsibility. Participants explored what it means to lead with purpose and how their everyday decisions, attitudes, relationships, and actions can influence others.

The session highlighted qualities of purpose-driven leaders, including integrity, responsibility, self-awareness, empathy, courage, discipline, vision, accountability, and a willingness to serve others.

The teens were challenged to see their lives as opportunities for positive impact and to begin developing the mindset of responsible leaders.

CYBER-PREPAREDNESS TRAINING

As part of the first week’s activities, FOH also conducted a Cyber-Preparedness Training on Digital Rights and Digital Safety & Security.

The training was held on Tuesday, 11th August and Wednesday, 12th August 2026, providing participants with practical knowledge on how to navigate the digital environment responsibly and safely.

The sessions introduced the teens to important aspects of digital rights, including responsible online participation, privacy, freedom of expression, access to information, and the importance of protecting personal information.

The participants also learned about digital safety and security, including common online threats, responsible use of social media and digital platforms, protection of accounts and personal data, and practical measures for staying safe online.

The training was particularly important in equipping young people to become more informed and responsible digital citizens.

OTHER ACTIVITIES IN WEEK ONE

In addition to the leadership and cyber-preparedness sessions, participants took part in activities designed to make learning interactive and engaging. These included:

  • Spelling Bee
  • Quiz Competition
  • Word and knowledge-based games
  • Team-building activities
  • Interactive discussions and group participation

These activities provided opportunities for participants to develop confidence, teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and healthy competition.

WEEK TWO: BOOK CLUB, CREATIVITY AND TEAM BUILDING

The second week of the Boot Camp focused on reading, reflection, communication, creativity, and collaborative learning. The Book Club ran for four days and provided participants with an opportunity to learn through books while developing their reading and comprehension skills.

The participants were divided into three groups with age-appropriate reading assignments.

Pacesetters and Achievers

The Pacesetters and Achievers groups read Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson.

Through the book, participants explored themes such as determination, perseverance, education, overcoming difficult circumstances, hard work, and the importance of believing in one’s potential.

The story provided an opportunity for the teens to reflect on how challenges do not have to determine their future and how dedication and persistence can help individuals achieve their goals.

Trailblazers

The Trailblazers group read Why You Act the Way You Do by Tim LaHaye.

The book introduced participants to the four basic temperament types—Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholy, and Phlegmatic—and encouraged them to understand differences in personality, behaviour, strengths, and weaknesses.

The discussions helped participants develop greater self-awareness and understand how their personalities can influence their relationships, communication, decision-making, and leadership styles.

CREATIVE, CULTURAL AND TEAM ACTIVITIES

The Book Club was complemented by a range of activities that encouraged participants to express themselves, work together, and appreciate the talents and cultures of others.

Debate

Participants engaged in group debates that challenged them to research topics, develop arguments, listen to opposing viewpoints, and communicate their ideas confidently.

The debates helped strengthen critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, confidence, and respectful communication.

Cultural News Presentation

The cultural presentation gave participants an opportunity to share information about their different cultural backgrounds. They presented cultural facts, greetings, food, traditions, customs, and other aspects of their heritage.

The activity promoted cultural awareness, appreciation of diversity, confidence, and mutual respect among the participants.

Drama Presentation

Participants worked in groups to prepare and present drama performances. Through drama, they explored social and leadership-related themes while developing creativity, teamwork, communication, confidence, and problem-solving skills.

Word Games, Riddles and Other Games

The programme also featured word games, riddles, quizzes, and other interactive activities. These activities provided a balance between learning and recreation while encouraging participants to think quickly, collaborate with their peers, and develop their vocabulary and general knowledge.
