The new Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has announced a policy reversal on the age requirement for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. In his first press conference in Abuja, Alausa shared his vision and changes aimed at shaping the educational sector. He revealed that the age limit for university matriculation would revert to 16 years, moving away from the previous policy that required students to be at least 18.
Alausa explained that his ministry would collaborate with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and universities to implement this policy, ensuring students can enter universities by age 16. This decision marks a return to earlier practices and aims to provide more flexible academic opportunities for younger students.
