On June 12, 2025, the world marked the 26th anniversary of the World Day Against Child Labour, an initiative established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002
Do you know that Approximately 138 million children are still trapped in labour, with around 54 million involved in hazardous work. Although this reflects significant progress—with a reduction of over 20 million since 2020, the current pace of change must increase 11 fold to meet the elimination goal.
This year’s theme is both a celebration of progress and a sounding alarm: despite hard-won gains, vast numbers of children remain vulnerable. The message is clear — what’s needed now is greater urgency, enforcement, and follow-through.

“Progress is clear, but there’s more to do” serves as a dual acknowledgement:Calls for renewed, accelerated efforts, including stronger legal enforcement, expanded access to education, improved social protection, and increased funding..
“Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts!”.
