The Flickers of Hope (FOH) Leadership Training held on Saturday, 11th October 2025, was another impactful session aimed at equipping students with vital life and leadership skills that foster responsibility, awareness, and intellectual growth.
The training featured three different class groups — JSS 2, JSS 3, and SS 3 — with each group engaging in tailored discussions relevant to their age, maturity, and leadership development needs. The sessions were highly interactive and focused on helping students build character, make informed choices, and strengthen their personal growth journey.
The JSS 2 class focused on responsibility and accountability, emphasizing the importance of making right choices and taking ownership of one’s actions. The facilitator introduced the topic by helping students understand that responsible behavior means doing what is right even when no one is watching.
Discussions centered on:
-
Understanding what accountability means and why it is important.
-
Recognizing how personal actions affect others.
-
Learning to admit mistakes and make amends.
-
The connection between responsibility and trustworthiness.
Students were guided through practical scenarios where they identified responsible and irresponsible behaviors, such as completing assignments on time, obeying rules, and being truthful.
The session ended with a reflection activity, encouraging students to set personal goals for becoming more accountable at home and in school.
The JSS 3 class explored an essential topic on safety, abuse awareness, and anti-bullying behavior. The discussion aimed to empower students to recognize unsafe situations, speak up, and seek help when necessary.
Students learned about:
-
The meaning and types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect).
-
Understanding what bullying is and its harmful effects.
-
How to respond to abuse or bullying — reporting, seeking help, and supporting others.
-
Building empathy and a culture of respect among peers.
Through role-play and open discussion, students identified ways they can be “upstanders” rather than bystanders — choosing to speak out and protect others instead of staying silent.
They were encouraged to confide in trusted adults, teachers, or guardians if they ever experience or witness abuse or bullying.
The SS 3 session centered on the importance of reading as a tool for personal growth, academic excellence, and leadership development. The facilitator highlighted how consistent reading broadens one’s mind, strengthens vocabulary, and cultivates critical thinking.
Discussions covered:
-
The benefits of regular reading — improved knowledge, imagination, and communication.
-
Choosing the right books that inspire growth and shape perspective.
-
Overcoming distractions and developing consistent reading habits.
-
How great leaders and thinkers are often great readers.
Students shared some of their favorite books and discussed how reading has influenced their thinking. The session concluded with a challenge for each student to commit to a personal reading goal for the month.
The FOH Leadership Training for October 2025 was a tremendous success. Each class engaged deeply with their respective topics, gaining practical lessons that will impact their attitudes, behaviors, and leadership journeys.
The training reinforced FOH’s commitment to nurturing responsible, confident, and informed young leaders who will make positive contributions to society.
